ABOUT THE SOCIETY

The Society was formed in 1967 and now has some 190 subscribing members. Our annual lecture program runs from September to April, lectures are given in the Town Hall  on the second Wednesday of each month at 7.30 pm., with refreshments provided in December and April (AGM) meetings. (See LECTURES page for 2008-2009)

The Society’s archive room at the Old School is open every Friday (not public holidays) from 2pm. Details of our extensive local and church archives can be found on the Archives page

Our membership fee, payable in September, is a modest £3 per annum. Enquiries should be addressed to our Secretary at:-

Trips

The Society organises annual day and evening trips ( at cost ) for members and friends. In May some 30 members were guests at the recently opened Physic Garden in Cowbridge. This years day trip was to Ludlow.

June 2008 members had a conducted tour of St. Illtyd's Church, L.M.

Current Projects

The Society provides display materials, documents, photos and a video presentation, for the town’s Heritage Centre. This is located on the ground floor of the Town Hall ( car park entrance).  When required members provide staffing for the Centre.

The Society has also provided  written content for the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Blue Plaque scheme, covering notable buildings in the town. See our Buildings page.
